But, just because nature is in hibernation does not mean we have to be in hibernation as well. You can avoid putting on weight during the winter season by continuing to exercise in the winter! When spring arrives, you will be a step ahead of nature and everyone else.

The overcast weather and the cold air do make it difficult for you to get up in the mornings. So exercising in the winter seems totally out of the question. You can’t give up so easily though. Here are some tips that will help you remain motivated and continue with your winter workouts :-

1. Buddy – Strength in numbers is a true saying when it comes to exercising. Find a person who has goals similar to yours and you can partner up with him/her for your winter workouts. You can then work on keeping each other motivated and on track. 2. Indoor training – Most YMCA’s and quite a few gyms have pools inside. This ensures that you can swim even during winter. If you can find an indoor pool which is heated, you will be even better off. You could also consider using those exercise tapes that you had once bought but never used.

3. Exercise with family – Cabin fever is a very common phenomenon during winter and you could help your entire household by working out together by going out for walks, jogs, or hikes. You could even consider playing a game of kickball or touch football. Quite a few good memories are derived from this.

4. Try something new – There are quite a few exercises which you could do during the winter. If you are not scared of trying new things then you can consider skiing or ice skating or even snow boarding. Ask some of your friends that remain active during the winter which sports they play in order to stay in shape.

5. Small changes – Small changes are the biggest influences on your weight loss. Try parking your car further in the winter. That will surely get you jogging!

Losing weight in the winter can be tough, but it can also be fun. It all depends on how you look at it. Now go get out your toboggan!
